Do we really need a Flagship phone in 2020.?

Choosing a mobile phone will always be a hard decision for users. We buy phones based on several aspects like performance, Spec-sheet, brand value, offers,.......
Instead of explaining each stuffs in a usual way, I will share my ideas on choosing a mobile phones which will cover most category of peoples.

Why choose a Flagship, if a mid-range phone does the Job
If you are really concern about the performance, mid range Processors like SDN 730G and Helio G95 are well capable to handle all situations. Benchmark values has nothing to do, since real time usage differs from person to person....
Of course few more things need to be considered too.

- Find a best System UI for your taste. look for the reviews online and make sure it has less bloated Apps and Ads.

- A better Display panel will make the overall user experience worthy. We can see better LCD panels in mobile phones but still OLED display nails the user experience. LCD or LED display with fullHD+ resolution will make the display crispy.
High resolution 4k displays and High refresh-rate displays are gimmicky stuffs which will not be useful and result in battery drain.

- Build quality. This is the area in which Budget phones lags far behind the Flagship phones. Few brands like Nokia, LG and Sony mastered the build quality in phones and others are far behind.
The latest trend in 2020 made an illusion that glass back phones are premium and Plastics are cheap. Both has their pros and cons. Pixel phones crashed this misconceptions by providing well built Polycarbonate back. In the end, as JerryRig says "Glass is glass... It tends to break".

- Storage type does matters. It is obvious that 128 Gigs of storage and 6-8 Gigs of RAM is required for a user in 2020. The storage should be UFS 2.1 or above for the good experience. RAM has to be LPDDR 4x or higher version need to be preferred.

- If you are a Camera centric person, then you have very few options in mid-range segment. But few mid-rangers produce good quality outputs too.
  • Most of the budget phones uses pixel binning technology like producing 48MP output using a 12MP lens.
  • Unlike hardware driven old cameras, now a days Camera phones are software driven. Image processing algorithms differs with each camera applications.
  • We can arrive with a camera quality only by real time usage or in an In-depth review by a reviewer.
  • Optical image stabilization (OIS) can be found in Flagship phones where as Electronic image stabilization (EIS) is found in some budget phones.
  • Beware of 2MP Macro and 2MP Depth Combo. Wish it doesn't exists.
Audio quality speaks.
Stereo speakers are preferred and can be found in most budget devices.
If you are a head phone lover,  look for phones which provides Bluetooth LE (low energy). aptX codecs are preferable.

A rear mounted or side mounted dedicated Fingerprint sensors are more reliable and faster than the optical in-display sensors.

Battery and Charging.
Choosing the Battery capacity is a subjective area based on how the software is optimized for the hardware.
Also "Charging Wattage doesn't matter, Charging technology matters". 15W or 18W charging is the decent charging speed for a phone. Make sure the phone doesn't heats up. Heat is very bad for battery health.

But still there are many compromises for a budget phone with a mid-range processor. You should really go for a Flagship phone if you fall under any one of the below mentioned category.

- I'm a Camera centric person who do Vlogs and capture photos a lot.
- I edit more videos and render video contents quite often in my phone.
- I used my old phone for 3+ years and planning to buy new phone for a long term    usage.
- Heavy Gamer.
- Really need the flagship stuffs like S-pen, IP68 dust and water resistant, frequent       software updates because I had them in my previous phone.
- Status symbol.

Since the mobile phones are your real companions... Choose them wisely.
